While I was studying for my B. A. in Political Science at LUISS, I joined a soft skills course. This article is about my experience in a soft skills course. In this regard, this article will talk about my experience and more. In addition, I would like to share some thoughts about soft skills courses and their relevance as an experience and not just as a way to fill in the CV.

At the time, even I was in need to complete my study plan with credits. I opted for soft skills because of my interest in and curiosity about the theme. I really thank my university for having provided me with the possibility to choose this kind of activity, getting me closer to this world.
A new concept of education: GrInn Lab
Anyhow, the course was GrInn Lab. Building on the accurate description provided in the link, the GrInn Lab (GrInn.City – Growing sustainable INNovation in cities) has the aim to focus on digital transformation and the creation of climate-neutral smart cities. The activity is carried out within the university, with the participation of students and alumni.
Each year it provides a different project plan. I was dealing with the designing of an environmentally sustainable building in the city of Rome. It had the aim of creating added social and economic value to the city and the people living nearby.
The skills

First of all, I discovered new ways to develop group projects, cooperating in teams with divided tasks and different aims. As a matter of fact, this automatically led to new skills, the soft ones, such as teamwork and public speaking. But I consider this important part as a marginal one with respect to the fascinating aspect of studying, working and living with the goal of shaping a more sustainable way of living inside a more equal society. Those pillars led me to the choice of LDIS as MSc.
Moreover, the latter constitutes the skeleton of the entire activity, building a real working contest in which experiment. Isn’t it what training means? Creating the best condition to try and re-try, make errors, and improve, as well as knowing yourself better with respect to the job market and the required skills.
For future career

The previous paragraph’s example was meant to show that soft skills do not have an end in themselves. Even if they can be seen just as a way to learn to do a speech better. In my personal view, they represent the way towards new horizons, a way to get involved in new areas. Under this sight, they help build the person’s outline adding to the hard skills the information needed to select in which direction to push someone’s energies.
